Amanda Dowhy has been officially elected as chair of the Sooke School District, seamlessly transitioning from her prior role as interim chair.
Dowhy was elected school trustee in last year's municipal election.
Ebony Logins became a board trustee after retiring from Sooke council in 2022 and is the new vice-chair.
Dowhy replaced Ravi Parmar last spring when he successfully ran in a byelection to become the MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca.
A byelection to fill an empty spot on the Sooke School Board after the departure of Parmar is set for 14 Oct 2023.
Dowhy is a long-time Sooke resident, community volunteer, and Edward Milne Community School graduate.
She has a background in hospitality, business administration, and accounting, with nearly a decade as a volunteer at the school, district, and provincial parent advisory council levels.
"I have gained great experience and recognize that the move to trustee would allow my voice to represent and serve not only my immediate community, but to help improve the outlook of education across our district. Over the decade, I have seen our district grow and develop its identity through a time of tremendous growth, and I look forward to the chance to continue improving our district as an educational leader in our province," said Dowhy during the 2022 election.
