Sooke Authors' Fair Showcases Local Literary Talent
22 September 2023

The number of writers participating in the Sooke Self-Published Authors Fair speaks volumes about their desire to share their work and expertise with the community.

"I was surprised that so many writers answered the call," said award-winning author Doni Eve.

She decided to organize the event after attending a similar one in Nanaimo last year to promote literary talent and acknowledge the Sooke Writers Collective's 10th anniversary.

Eve is working with The Sooke Writers Collective and April Ripley from the Vancouver Island Regional Library on the fair, which will include 26 authors, most of whom have self-published books, or had their work published in Sooke Writers' Collective anthologies.

The Sooke Self-Published Authors Fair, which features authors from Sooke to East Sooke and Port Renfrew, will include an opportunity to interact with the authors, readings, and sales of their books.

"We are thrilled to have such a diverse range of topics and genres. There's something for everyone, including a couple of writers of children’s books doing some readings from their books," Eve said.

Participating authors include Linda Green Abraham, Richard Ashton, Mark Batterbury, Dr. Sylvia Bell, Denelda Bendsen, Jim Bottomley, T,G. Brown, D.L. Clay, Sue Daniels-Ferrie, Nancy Davies, Beverly A. Elliott MD, MJL Evans, D.K. Eve, Linda M. Ford, Patricia Grayhall, Terry Groves, Kathryn Guthrie, Paula Johanson, V. Knox, D. Lambert, Manco Hum, Andrew Moore, GM O'Connor, Allie Picketts, David Reichheld, and Richard Winder.

Their work runs the gamut from novels to non-fiction, memoirs, children’s books, crime fiction, poetry, science fiction, and fantasy.

The event takes place on Sunday, 1 Oct 2023, from noon to 16:00 at the Sooke library at 6671 Wadams Way.
