The Capital Regional District has once again been awarded the animal control contract for the District of Sooke.
The new contract will last five years from 1 Jan 2024 to 31 Dec 2028.
District staff reported to council that the CRD had made a minor alteration to the contract.
Based on the revised agreement, Sooke will be responsible for covering the costs of any legal action initiated by CRD in Sooke only after obtaining the district’s agreement.
The animal control service conducts regular patrols, impounds dogs, investigates complaints, and issues tickets.
The officer operates an identified Animal Control vehicle and possesses all the necessary equipment.
The district can call upon the animal control officer for additional after-hours services.
Animal control services for the district of Sooke have been provided under contract with the CRD since Sooke's incorporation as a municipality on 7 Dec 1999.
Sooke paid $104,000 for these services last year, and the amount paid changes annually based on property assessments.
