The first year of the program will see 68 locomotives
retired from service, including 47 units already tied up as unserviceable. Sixteen units will be rebuilt - ten at Ogden and
six at Angus. Fifty units will be converted from road freight service to general purpose use as road switchers. The
acquisition of 18 new 3000-hp six-axle locomotives for road freight service will round out the
first year's efforts.
At the end of the ten-year program, CP Rail's motive power fleet will total 1129
locomotives: 558 in mainline freight service, 246 in general purpose road work, 319 yard switchers, and six rebuilt
units in commuter service.
