This photo looks down from a bluff over the Thompson River Valley slightly east of Ashcroft. An empty eastbound coal train is seen running on Canadian Pacific's mainline. The Canadian National tracks on the right crisscross the river several times between Ashcroft and Savona as they too follow this valley. It appears CP obtained the better route by getting here first in the 1880s.
