Travelers on Highway 3 in southwestern Alberta received a first-hand view Saturday morning of a Canadian Pacific (CP) train derailment near the community of Frank in the Crowsnest Pass.
 
CP said train was travelling westbound when 12 of the cars derailed.
 
All but two of the cars remained upright.
 
Eyewitnesses told The Nelson Daily emergency crews were on the scene when they traveled through the southwest Alberta town of Frank.
 
The site of the derailment is at the base of the Frank Slide, a slide that buried part of the mining town of Frank on the morning of 29 Apr 1903, when more than 90 million tons of limestone rock slid down Turtle Mountain within 100 seconds.
 
The Transportation Safety Board says there are no reports of leaks or injuries as the scene of the derailment, which was reported to have happened at 04:30.
 
CP officials continue to investigate the derailment.
