HISTORY
Train simulator software has come a long way since MSTS beginnings in 2001. And let's not forget to include the increasing power of Personal Computer hardware. Besides this simple review of Dovetail Games Train Simulator, lets call it DGTS, there are other train simulator manufacturers out there such as, Searchlight Simulations, Derail Valley, Sim World 3, and Trainz to name some. Also, there is Open Rails, the successor to MSTS, which runs trains on routes built for MSTS. Since this is a history page let's take a look at an old website creation made from MSTS images way back in 2004. While the graphics don't compare with today's images, with MSTS it was possible to move the camera position horizontally and vertically thereby offering many more different positions to capture a scene.

I forgot to mention, just like today, developers created locomotives, equipment, and routes as so-called "Add-ons". One such company was Maple Leaf Tracks which produced a route sold as "Kicking Horse Pass". Their Add-on created Canadian Pacific Railway's (CP) Laggan Subdivision, or most of it, between Field, British Columbia, and Calgary, Alberta. Located along this route are the "Big Hill" and the Spiral Tunnels, known to every Canadian railwayman, railfan, and model railroader. Their software included CP locomotives and appropriate trackside signs and structures found along the route. Also, another developer was Harold Clitheroe, who created CP steam and diesel locomotive Add-ons. Both of these were used to create this old website below:
