This account of the 1901 Empire Tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) is a facsimile of a journal written by Petty Officer Harry Price during his time serving on board HMS Ophir. It is accompanied by illustrations made by Price during the journey. Price gives a behind the scenes account of the tour, explaining events which took place while the Royal Couple were ashore. The visit to Singapore allowed the crew of Ophir to restock coal supplies and make any necessary repairs to the ship following a tropical storm which hit the convoy after leaving Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Price also recounts with glee the regatta held to celebrate the visit. He gives a colourful description of the display, the salutes fired by the ships in the harbour (including those of the French, Italian, and Japanese navies) and the gifts received by the Royal Couple from various dignitaries.
