Calgary Alberta - Canadian Pacific has been an ardent supporter of the armed forces for over 135 years.
In November 2019, that relationship was acknowledged by the production of five commemorative locomotives designed to pay tribute to the men and women who have served in all branches of the military.
Proud Colours is the story of those special locomotives, how they were designed, what they represent, and most importantly, the commitment they symbolize between CP and the armed forces of the two incredible nations the railway serves.
This book provides an informative window to the past, including a summary of CP's history with the military.
It is a record of sacrifice, commitment, and pride.
From the Boer War in the 1890s, through two World Wars, and numerous conflicts since, CP's contributions and support for the militaries of North America are remarkable.
Few companies can claim such an important legacy, and that connection is celebrated by these locomotives and within the book's pages.
Providing an intimate view of both the creation of the locomotives, and the heritage of the company they serve, Proud Colours is complemented by information from the CP Archives.
It features images from several of North America's most talented railway photographers such as Tim Stevens, Ken Storey, Greg Sherwood, Kevin Dunk, and Mark Perry.
Adam Meeks is Canadian Pacific's Manager Heritage Services and Operations.
In addition to assisting with the maintenance and operation of CP's fleet of heritage locomotives and rail cars, his duties include providing oversight of the CP Archival collection.
As a core member of the design team for the military tribute locomotives, he provides valuable insight into the process of creating these unique and striking machines.
