Cliff Blackstaffe adjusts 0-4-0ST number 4.

One-Spot Repair Shop - Cliff Blackstaffe, shift engineer at the Empress Hotel Power house, Victoria, B.C., runs what must be the most unusual roundhouse in the country. It is exclusively for the maintenance of scale model live steam locomotives belonging to other hobbyists. Model railroad motive power from all parts of Canada and the United States finds its way to Cliff's turntable and into one of his stalls for overhaul.

Mr. Blackstaffe is shown making adjustments to one of his own locomotives, an English saddletank switcher in three-quarter-inch scale. This coal burning engine is a monument to the skill and tenacity of its builder. It was wholly constructed in his own shop, even to home-made nuts and bolts and and entirely accurate steam gauge. The American coal burning locomotive (right) is a switcher designed for road work. It came from the United States for reconditioning, but it was already familiar to Mr. Blackstaffe, he made the casting for the owner who built it.
