Anus Shops Montreal - Apr 1944 Photographer unknown.
By 1944, the end of the Second World War was in sight. The landing at Normandy by the Allied forces was achieved in June, and this
marked the push towards the end of the war. The wartime demand for supplies persisted and Canadian Pacific continued building munitions,
shells, tanks, and artillery guns in our shops. In addition to supplying implements of war, we maintained our railway operations.
This photo was taken in April of 1944 at CP's Montreal Angus Shops, where the photographer captured engine 1201 under construction. The
1200 class Pacific engines were built for CP between 1944 and 1948. Our Angus Shops only built the first two engines in the Pacific class,
and the engine you see here has the distinction of being the very last steam locomotive that CP built in-house. The 1201 has been
preserved at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa.
