AAR Delegates Tour
"The Pass" By Steve Morris
Rogers Pass British Columbia - More than 250 delegates attending the
19th Annual Association of American Railroads Freight Claims and Damage Prevention Conference took a side trip in
June from Banff, Alberta, to Rogers Pass to tour CP Rail's $600-million grade reduction and
double-tracking project.
The delegates were given a guided, first-hand look at the 33-kilometre long project, the
largest railway project of its kind in North America. The tour took more than seven hours with guests being shown
work progress on much of the surface route as well as the two tunnels.
"It took two busses to handle the requests from delegates to come see the project", said CP Rail's Dave
Freeman, who, along with Kevin McCaw, area supervisor, organized the tour.
"The general consensus of all who participated was that it was by far the high point of the
three-day convention hosted by CP Rail".
