Staff Bring Cheer to Less-Fortunate

Santa's Support:  Santa was on hand to help West Toronto staff prepare Christmas baskets. Unconfirmed reports say the red-suited figure was actually Doug Nugent. Jerry White, seen here with Santa, only smiled when questioned.

Christmas is a time for good cheer and a cherished time to be with family and friends. For many families, however, the holiday season is less than bright.

Groups of CP Rail employees - in Montreal and in Toronto - have been working each year to change all that for the less fortunate.

They have been gathering foodstuffs, collecting assorted clothing, and donating money to help low-income families; and they are having a good time doing it.

So important is the Christmas effort that a familiar bearded figure in a bright red suit made an unprecedented, if not premature, appearance when CP Rail News cameras showed up recently to record the activities at the railway's West Toronto shops.

Meanwhile, the staff in the chief statistician's office in Montreal were aiming for "Ten-pins" to raise funds for two families they "adopted" for Christmas.
