BC
Spirit of 150 - Between 1-30 Jun 2008, the CP BC Spirit of 150 Rail Tour visited British Columbia
communities along our route. The train included the Empress 2816 steam locomotive and support cars, two vintage
passenger coaches, and a business car, a heritage baggage car converted into a traveling museum, and a stage car.
Visitiors were treated to a stage show and were able to interact with costumed performers depicting some of BC's
most entertaining and notorious historical figures.
Heritage Station - CP continues its long-term investment in Canada's most
successful heritage theme park with our contribution toward the construction of a close replica of the railway's
1893 station in Calgary. The station, based on a design by art nouveau practitioner Edward Colonna, is part of the
park's expansion program. CP's contribution reinforces our long-standing presence in Calgary and is a
tangible example of our investment in quality community-focused organizations.
Bridge
Centennial - Michel Spenard, manger of media relations & public affairs - east (right), presents two framed
photographs from the CP Archives to Parry Sound mayor, Richard Adams, at celebrations marking the 100th anniversary
of the CPR bridge over the Sequin River. The day-long activities commemorated the construction of the
1,695.5-foot trestle. Jeff Poeta, road manager at Mactier, spent the day speaking with hundreds of
Parry Sound and area citizens who visited the railway's static display of railway
equipment.
Innovative Retooling - Marcel Bouffard, special group operator, was honoured during a
recent visit to the Montreal and Southern Ontario service areas with an award from executive
vice-president & chief operating officer (now EVP and chief financial officer) Kathryn McQuade.
Marcel developed a customized track gauge and level board that fits in the dash of his machine. Track programs
& equipment (TP&E) employees have been having a much improved year for safety. From left: Manager of
track renewal Vince Rock, Marcel, and Kathryn.
Safe
and Fluid Grade Separation Work - The final spans of the Morningside Avenue subway reconstruction project were
lifted and secured in place during a 36-hour track block on the Belleville Subdivision at mile 195.16.
The contractor - working with CP forces from track and signals & structures - removed the temporary spans,
prepared the site, installed two new deck spans, laid and ballasted the track in 23 hours. The efficient,
coordinated effort allowed engineering to release the track back to service at 21:33 on Sunday,
31 Aug 2008, 12 hours ahead of schedule.
Simply
the Best - The third group to take crew dispatcher clases in 2008 with instructor Paul Sequin graduated with a
class average of 95.1%. Not only were the results extraordinary, it was the first time that everyone in the class
made it through the entire six-week training period. Pictured, from left, are: front row:
