Train Derails and Spills Corn

Edmonton - Twelve Canadian Pacific Railway cars derailed, spilling corn onto a farmer's field yesterday morning. It is not yet known what caused the cars to go off the tracks, but an investigation has been launched, said CPR spokesman Ed Greenberg.

"Nine (cars) ended up on their side. The other three stayed upright, but had just slipped off the tracks," he said.

"There were no injuries fortunately. The public was never in any danger and there were no dangerous commodities involved in this incident."

The train was heading toward Lethbridge.

Greenberg said the train line should be reopened by tomorrow.
