Weather a Factor in
Train Collision
Innisfail - Two men are
in hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle they were in collided with a train yesterday
morning. Innisfail RCMP Const. Gerry Asselstine said the rail crossing was clearly marked with
flashing lights, but at the time of the crash the roads were icy and a dense fog had settled over the
area.
"At this time it's believed road and weather conditions were the contributing factor,"
Asselstine said.
The pair were eastbound on Township Rd. 352 near its intersection with Range Rd. 285 by Innisfail,
about 110 km north of Calgary, when their vehicle collided with the southbound Canadian Pacific
Railway train.
The 37-year-old male driver was airlifted by STARS to the Foothills hospital, while his
passenger was taken to Red Deer.
Their injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
