CPR Hill Resident Thanks
Petition Signatories
I wish to take this
opportunity to thank all the citizens of Revelstoke who took the time to listen to our cause and sign
their names to our petition, all 1,467 of you.
During the last week in February and the fist two weeks in March, residents from various
neighbourhoods in town as well as residents of CPR Hill were circulating a petition asking the City to
"abandon the planned installation of the chain-link gates at the MacKenzie Ave.
Railway Crossing" and that the "funds for these chain link gates be put towards the
installation of crossing arms and signals".
Unfortunately our petition and your voices did not sway City Council, and this petition was dismissed.
This is disappointing for two reasons.
First, we feel we are not asking too much from City Council
other than patience and time. The time required to get the funding in order and to get all parties
(Transport Canada and the CPR) on side. But, it appears Council is not willing to be flexible on this
matter.
And second, because this petition contains a significant number of names given the population of
Revelstoke, and for City Council not to sit up and take notice is disconcerting.
The positive support we received while canvassing this petition has been overwhelming and encouraging,
we heard your comments first hand and know where the majority of Revelstoke stands on this issue. And
again, for this we thank you.
On behalf of the residents of CPR Hill
Glen O'Reilly - Revelstoke, B.C.
