Man Hit by Train; May
Have Been Sleeping
Thunder Bay - Foul play
is not suspected in the death of a city man who was struck by a train.
Thunder Bay police say the man was likely sleeping on the tracks along the Canadian Pacific Railway
crossing at MacDougall Street on Thursday night at 6:43 p.m. Investigation by city police and CP Rail
is ongoing.
Sgt. Alan McKenzie said the train's engineer noticed the man sprawled across the tracks in what
appeared to be a sleeping position. The engineer was unable to stop the train before striking the man.
Trains "can't stop on a dime", McKenzie said.
Although the police believe they know the man's identity, his name was being withheld until his family
is notified.
Police said the man was about 35 years old and had stayed at the Empire Hotel on Simpson
Street.
