Man Suffers Serious
Injuries in Train Accident
Kenora - Wabaseemoong
(Whitedog) band member Ron Cameron suffered severe injuries after he was run over by a train Saturday
morning.
Kenora Police responded to the scene on the CP line near Veteran's Drive around 11 a.m.
The railway closed one of its two main cross-country lines temporarily, while
investigators did their work, but the company only reported minor disruptions to its cargo service.
Cameron was still listed as a patient at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital this morning, as
staff worked to stabilize his condition. His condition this morning is now listed as stable.
His cousin, Adolphus Cameron, said Sunday evening the victim had lost both his legs, and doctors were
hoping to transfer their patient to Winnipeg for further treatment.
Whitedog Chief Ron Roy McDonald said he was concerned about reports Ron Cameron was shopping in
Kenora, when he was attacked and left on the tracks.
Community relations officer Const. Bob Bernie of the Kenora Police Service said officers were still
investigating the incident. Bernie wasn't able to confirm reports of an attack on Cameron, but he did
confirm Cameron was found on the tracks.
Canadian Pacific Railway spokesman Ed Greenberg said Sunday evening the eastbound train had 98 cars
attached to it, at the time of the incident. Cameron was spotted by a westbound train, as it made its
way through the Kenora yard. "This is something we never want to see happen and we take it very
seriously", Greenberg said.
Railway police and staff are continuing their work in partnership with officers from the Kenora Police
Service. There were no comments from Kenora police or hospital staff as of Sunday evening.
