CPR Opens New Crew Lodge in North Portal, Saskatchewan for Canadian and U.S. Employees
A brand new crew lodge that will house
Canadian Pacific Railway train crews from Canada and the United States will be
officially unveiled in North Portal, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, 28 Jun 2005. The
16,500 square foot, two-story facility, features 40 bedrooms, a modern
kitchen/dining area, locker facility of 107 lockers, exercise and games' room,
computer room, as well as a laundry and linen room.
"This modern rest house provides our train crews on both sides of the
border various comforts to rest and relax between shifts," said CPR's Service
Area Manager for Field Operations in the Saskatchewan Service Area,
Dave Hoppenreys.
Terry Bagaus, Service Area Manager of Field Operations Manager for the
St. Paul Service Area added, "as in keeping with the spirit of cross-border
cooperation that exists between North Portal and Portal, this project is a
wonderful example of how American and Canadian CPR employees worked together
to come up with a facility that works."
Other features of the new crew lodge includes stoves and ranges,
10 refrigerators and five upright freezers. Each of the 40 bedrooms is
190 square feet with an individual washroom, including shower. The bunkhouse
will be staffed around the clock.
Train crews will begin occupying the new bunkhouse on 29 Jun 2005. On a
24-hour period, approximately 65 Canadian and American CPR employees will use
the North Portal Crew Lodge.
The new facility replaces an out-of-date building on the same site that
will now be closed.
