Tractor Struck By Train
Winchester - A Winchester man is facing charges after the
tractor he was driving was crushed by a train.
At about 7:15 a.m., on Thursday, a man at the wheel of a 1978 northbound Landis farm
tractor drove the vehicle onto a railway crossing on Helmer Road, north of County Road 43,
between Chesterville and Winchester, police said.
The tractor, which was pulling an empty flatbed trailer at the time of the incident, was
then struck by an eastbound cargo train.
"The driver was able to abandon the tractor prior to collision," said OPP Senior Const.
Joel Doiron. "He was not injured."
However, the tractor was severely damaged, Doiron said, and a portion of the road was
closed for several hours as officers conducted an investigation into the crash and removed
debris.
Doug Vasey, 52, has been charged with careless driving.
The road was opened to traffic again on Thursday afternoon.
