Lougheed Highway Widening Project Done a Year Early
Vancouver - Motorists soon will be breezing through a former bottleneck on Lougheed Highway.
Widening the four-kilometre stretch at the border between Maple Ridge and Mission is all but done, with just the traffic
lights waiting to be installed. Project manager Al Coton said his company, B and B Contracting Ltd., is just waiting for CP Rail to
install detectors along the track so the railway crossing control bars can be co-ordinated with the left-turn
signal at 287th Street.
That's important in order to prevent big trucks from blocking the intersection into the cedar mill, should a train be passing by.
But once that's been worked out in the next week or two, all four lanes will be open in the $14-million project.
Initially, it was thought the project would take until next September, because of limits on work involving the nearby creeks affected
by the project. But good planning and an early start allowed the project to finish a year ahead of time.
