Man Killed by Train After Failing to Respond to Whistles

A man was struck and killed by a train Saturday morning while walking along the CP Rail tracks near the Albion Ferry.

Albion - A man was struck and killed by a CP train while walking on the tracks near River Road in Albion on Saturday.

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows RCMP responded to the incident, which took place 300 metres east of 240th Street and River Road, near the Albion ferry.

The investigation to date has revealed that the man was eastbound on the railway tracks when an eastbound train began to approach him. The man failed to respond to the train's warning whistles and the brakeman was unable to stop the train in time.

RCMP are investigating why the man was walking on the tracks and why he failed to respond to repeated warning whistles. They believe the deceased man is in his early 30s and are still working to confirm his identity.

No name will be released until his next of kin is notified.
