CPR Says Impact of Spill Will be Minimal
Kaministiquia River - Officials with Canadian Pacific Railway say the impact of a diesel
spill, that saw hundreds of litres of fuel spill onto the ice of the Kaministiquia River, will be minimal.
A railway spokesperson said Friday that an abnormal spike in the the amount of fuel in a fuel separator caused the spill. Apparently
the spike overwhelmed the equipment. The railway estimates that about one thousand litres was leached, while the Ministry of Environment
says it is closer to two thousand.
The CPR continues to examine the exact cause of the spill, and are looking to spring for a completion of their investigation. They
maintain that they acted as soon as possible to remove as much of the fuel as possible.
There has been no decision yet on whether the company will face charges.
