CPR Corporate Historian Retired
Jonathan Hanna, Canadian Pacific Railway Corporate Historian has been placed on retirement along with
several others in CPR's latest downsizing of management positions.
Jonathan B. Hanna was born 10 Jun 1954 in Montreal, Quebec, receiving a French classical education at
College Stanislas, in the municipality of Outremont, before graduating from Concordia University in 1979 with a B.A.
in History. From the early 1970s, Jonathan worked at Canadian Pacific headquarters in Montreal, starting out in the
company's collector sales program (CP Bygones) and later working in Canadian Pacific's corporate archives. In the
early 1980s, Jonathan worked in the company's photographic services section and then in the advertising section of
Canadian Pacific's Public Relations and Advertising department. Jonathan melded together his advertising, his
heritage, and his photographic backgrounds in 1986 to work in the marketing communications section of the railway.
During and after the 1996 CPR headquarters move to Calgary Jonathan supervised the administrative functions of the
company's Government and Public Affairs department. In 2000, Jonathan was appointed CPR Corporate Historian. He is
married and has a daughter.
