Town, CPR Look to Curb Tedious Crossing Waits
Golden - If all goes as planned, by the end of this year, you may not have to wait as long at
town railroad crossings to reach the golf course, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort or the airport.
Canadian Pacific Railway, the Town of Golden, and Transport Canada are joining forces to fund upgrades to the crossing warning systems
at Fisher Road and Kicking Horse Drive.
At an estimated cost of $362,900, the project will be divided among the three groups, with the Town chipping in 12.5 percent of the
total cost " $45,362.50.
CPR spokesperson Ed Greenberg, admits that the system currently in place at the Golden intersections can be a source of frustration for
drivers who are made to wait for slow-moving or parked trains which are in close proximity to the road crossings.
"Under the old system, if a train is parked within a certain distance to the crossing, it will activate the lights and gates and
bells, which will cause delays at the crossing even if it's not proceeding across," Greenberg said.
