Rail Freight Jobs Cut
Thunder Bay - Another employment impact is being felt in the city as a result of the decline
of the forest products industry.
Five employees of two independent contractors who work at the CPR freight container terminal will be affected as the railway announces
it will suspend operations at the end of April.
However, CPR says none of its 375 employees will be affected by the shutdown. A CPR official says the activity at the terminal has
slowed over the years, averaging fewer than ten containers per day. The closure of Cascades, and the pending shutdown at Bowater has
forced the decision to close down the operation.
