No Verdict on 1st Day of Deliberations in Canadian Pacific Derailment Case
Minneapolis Minnesota - The jury considering damage awards in the 2002 Canadian Pacific Railway
derailment near Minot, N.D., ended their first day of deliberations Monday without reaching a decision.
A court clerk said deliberations were expected to continue Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court in Minneapolis. Jurors are
considering awards for four people who claim they were injured when a train derailed and spilled a cloud of anhydrous ammonia.
Canadian Pacific has admitted it was at fault for the derailment, so jurors are responsible for deciding how much money each plaintiff
will get.
More than 100 claims have been filed against the company. Six cases were settled out of court earlier, including a wrongful death
lawsuit by the widow of 38-year-old John Grabinger, who died while trying to escape the chemical spill.
