SCOC Gets Behind City of Vancouver Over Arbutus Corridor
Vancouver - The Supreme Court of Canada's ruling to uphold a City of Vancouver bylaw
designating privately-owned land along the Arbutus corridor for public use creates an intolerable level of uncertainty for
investment in BC.
This from the Executive Director of the Urban Development Institute, Maureen Enser, who says the decision sends the wrong message to
both property owners and investors, "The implications, as we say, go way beyond this particular strip of property. The way the law
was written enables the City of Vancouver to do this to its citizens and we're very concerned about the perception of the investment
community but more importantly or equally importantly is the fair treatment of citizens of Vancouver".
Enser made the comments on CKNW while speaking with Jon McComb on The World Today.
Canadian Pacific Railway wanted the 11-kilometre stretch zoned for residential and commercial use while the City wanted
the land preserved for a public transportation route or greenbelt.
