Teen Killed When Sled Struck by Train
Wabigoon - A 16-year-old boy was killed Sunday
afternoon when the sled he was riding in, which was being towed by a snowmobile, was struck by train at a Canadian Pacific Railway
crossing in Wabigoon.
The Dryden detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the scene around 1:40 p.m. Sunday at the rail crossing near the
government dock in Wabigoon, located east of Dryden.
The OPP reported this morning the collision occurred when the snowmobile and a "GT SnoRacer" sled was being towed across the
railway tracks. The snowmobile, being ridden by two other 16-year-old boys, managed to clear the railway tracks, but the
sled was struck by a westbound train.
The two snowmobile riders escaped without injury, but the 16-year-old passenger in the sled was pronounced dead at the
scene. There were no injuries to the conductor or crew of the train.
No charges have been laid in the incident, but the Dryden OPP are continuing its investigation. The name of the victim has been
withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
