Superhospital Not Over Budget: MUHC Boss
Montreal - The head of the McGill University Health Centre says the superhospital project at
the Glen Yards site will come in on budget.
A news report says the English and French language superhospital projects are $600 million over budget.
Dr. Arthur Porter, director general and CEO of the MUHC, insists initial work done on the McGill hospital site speaks for itself, noting
decontamination work cost 10 percent less than expected, and finished one month ahead of schedule.
Crews are decontaminating the soil at Glen Yards, the former railway yard, by excavating soil and trucking it away to a remediation
site.
Porter says the key is to build a facility that costs a little less than the allotted budget, and to stick to the plan.
"We don't spend money we don't have. We remain under budget on the things that we have been doing. Our plans are going forward and
we are on track to the deadlines that we have given the community, the Shriners, all our stakeholders," Porter said Monday.
The MUHC has a budget of just over $1 billion for the hospital.
Porter says construction on the first phase of the English superhospital should begin by the end of the year.
