Man Hit by Train Downtown
London - A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being
hit by a train downtown Tuesday morning.
But when police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they encountered a strange site: The man, lying on the tracks, but no train
anywhere to be found.
"We're trying to figure that out," said one officer, when asked where the train went.
The man - described as "a bigger, older guy" - was treated on the tracks, south of the Maitland and York Street intersection,
behind the Men's Mission.
He was then taken to hospital with "life-threatening injuries," paramedic Mark Whiston said.
Several witnesses said a man, with his head in his hands, was sitting near the tracks for much of the morning.
John Babcock, 27, was on a break from work when he saw the emergency response unfold: A westbound freight train passed the area,
ambulances raced to the scene and then a VIA train passed the area slowly, he said.
