Crime Stoppers Seek Info on Railway Mischief
Thunder Bay - Through Crime Stoppers the Canadian Pacific Railway police could use your
help in identifying the persons responsible for two incredible acts of mischief that not only resulted in property damage in the tens of
thousands of dollars but also endangered the lives of several railway personnel.
The first incident occurred on 14 Apr 2006 about 6:10 p.m. when a fully loaded westbound freight train hit a large rock
that had been placed between the rails of the CPR mainline at a point at the end of Lillian Avenue and just east of the Current River.
The rock broke a drain plug off the diesel fuel tank on the one locomotive and a large quantity of fuel was spilled very close to the
Current River. It was only through a quick emergency response that environmental damage was kept to a minimum.
A second incident occurred on 24 Apr 2006 when at about 8:30 a.m. a 16-foot railway tie was found between the
rails of the mainline at approximately the same location as the first.
Both of these incidents had the potential of derailing trains that could easily have resulted in death or injury to those onboard.
These crimes are truly incomprehensible and Crime Stoppers is offering its maximum reward of $2,000 for any information that could
identify those responsible for these crimes. Let's do the right thing here, get these crimes solved - call Crime Stoppers and remain
anonymous!
