Empress Chugging Back to Town
Cochrane Alberta - A 1 Aug 2006
opportunity to chug along on the rails will help keep kids chugging along at schools as the Empress Train Tour in support of
Breakfast for Learning steams its way through Cochrane.
Between 29 Jul 2006 and 1 Aug 2006, the historic Empress steam train will be travelling from Port
Coquitlam, B.C. to Calgary, offering the public a chance to hop on board for a modest fee, and experience a little bit of Canadian
history.
For $35, riders can catch the train on the scenic trip from Cochrane to Calgary. "We want to ensure that kids are getting the
fuel necessary to concentrate and learn to the best of their abilities," says Tim Kennish, chair of Breakfast for Learning.
The program has a vision of every child in Canada attending school well-nourished and ready to learn.
Last year's Empress Tour raised $20,000 for nutrition programs in Canada, including 250 schools in Alberta, although there are no
Breakfast for Learning funded programs in Cochrane or the Rocky View School Division.
The 2816 Empress is over 75 years old and is one of only a select few CPR steam locomotives operating, and this marks the fifth
year that CPR has teamed up with Breakfast for Learning. "CPR is pleased to be working with Breakfast for Learning, knowing we
can help ensure children receive healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks, so they can get the most out of their school day,"
says CPR Vice President Paul Clark.
To purchase a $35 ticket for the one way trip from Cochrane to Calgary, which departs Cochrane on 1 Aug 2006 at
12:15 p.m., go to Breakfast for Learning.
