Press Conference of CP Rail's Maintenance of Way Employees in Calgary, August 11
Calgary Alberta - The President of the Teamsters Canada
Rail Conference - Maintenance of Way Employees Division (TCRC-MWED), Mr.
Bill Brehl, invites members of the press to attend a press conference
scheduled for 11 Aug 2006 in Calgary. The Teamsters are worried about recent
workplace deaths, railway safety in general, as well as CP Rail's plan to
change the rest days of many of its employees and wishes to inform the
Canadian public of such.
Mr. Brehl will be accompanied by maintenance of way employees for CPRail
and will speak to journalists about the many health and safety issues affecting
workers who repair and maintain the railway system from one end of the country
to the other. Mr. Brehl will also answer journalists' questions on the
negotiations currently underway between the employer and the union.
"The health and safety of our workers is our first priority, and it would
appear at the current time that CP Rail's management is not doing its part in
this respect despite having recently achieved record profit levels."
Background documents will be distributed and the Teamsters Union truck
will also be on site.
