Train Engine Labour of Love

Saskatoon Saskatchewan - The Saskatchewan Railway Museum
has unveiled its "showpiece" exhibit - a newly restored 1957 Canadian Pacific S-3 locomotive.
"It was a five-year labour of love in restoring the locomotive. It took literally thousands of volunteer hours and
some remarkable local tradespeople who came in and did some very specific work," said Bill Rafoss, project
co-ordinator with the museum.
During the 1950s Canadian Pacific owned 101 S-3s, which were primarily used in yards to move around small numbers of cars.
The museum's S-3 received a new paint job, inside and out, to restore its original look.
This was the first piece of railway equipment donated to the museum, operated by the Saskatchewan Historical Railroad Association.
"We want to preserve and restore railway equipment used on the Prairies so people in Saskatoon know what it was like in the days
gone by when trains were important to Prairie life," Rafoss said.
