CP Coal Train Derails Near Cranbrook, B.C.
Cranbrook British Columbia - A CP Rail coal train has derailed
along the Kootenay River in southeastern B.C.
Company spokesman Ed Greenberg says 16 cars of a 115-car westbound train went off the tracks in a remote location east of
Fort Steele, near Cranbrook.
He says one of the cars has spilled some of its load into the edge of the river.
Cleanup crews and environmental experts are at the site assessing the damage.
No one was hurt in the accident and the cause is not known.
Rerouting plans are in place and there is no word on when the line will be reopened.
