Bear Activists Hold Protest Over Deaths on Railway Lines
Calgary Alberta - A Canmore-based environmenal
group says a lack of action by CP Rail has prompted it to go public with concerns about the number of bears being killed on CP lines
through Banff National Park.
Defenders of Wildlife say CP Rail is the worst human-related offender when it comes to bear mortality.
However, the railway company denies that's the case.
The Canmore environmental group's director Jim Pissot says CP trains are leaking grain and killing bears attracted to the food.
CP Rail's Ed Greenberg says humans shoot more bears than the number killed on the tracks, but he adds the rail company is doing more
than any other to prevent wildlife mortality.
Defenders of Wildlife held a protest outside the CP Rail head offices in downtown Calgary Tuesday, in advance of bears getting set to
hibernate for the winter.
