Traffic Tied Up After Train Conductor Says Man in Black Rolled Off Tracks
Kamloops British Columbia - A suspected near miss between
a train and pedestrian backed up rail and highway traffic in Valleyview for almost 45 minutes Monday.
Kamloops Fire and Rescue, Kamloops RCMP and the B.C. Ambulance service were called to the tracks between Oriole and River Road at 5:20
p.m. when the train's conductor thought he saw a man in dark clothing roll off the side of the tracks.
Firefighters, constables, and paramedics armed with flashlights and a thermal imager scoured the area looking for a body. They found
nothing.
Police at the scene said no blood was found on the train or around the tracks.
The congregation of emergency vehicles blocked one of the Trans-Canada Highway's westbound lanes, creating a backlog of
traffic.
Randy Lewin was riding his bike into town when he saw the flashing red and blue lights. He stopped and watched emergency personnel
carefully sift through the dirt and weeds.
"I hear they haven't found anything," he said, shaking his head.
"You really shouldn't be walking along the tracks."
Emergency crews cleared the tracks by 6 p.m. The train was rolling again a half hour later.
