Spuzzum British Columbia - CP Rail is investigating the
cause of a train derailment after six rail cars left the tracks near Spuzzum.
The eastbound CP Rail train, travelling on the CP line, was a "mixed freight train," says Ed Greenberg, media relations for
the railroad.
The derailment occurred on Friday, (8 Dec 2006) and the rail line was reopened the next day.
Six rail cars left the tracks, however, four of the cars remained upright, adds Greenberg.
The derailed cars were automobile carriers.
There were no injures, no environmental concerns, little damage to the tracks and no danger to the public, adds Greenberg.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
It would be "only speculation at this point" to suggest a cause, says Greenberg, but CP Rail remains dedicated to not only
identifying the specific cause of any derailment but what lead up to incident as well.
