I had an interesting trip yesterday working a plow train
for the first time. We picked up the plow and spreader at Banff then headed west. We used the plow just for
flanging but used the spreader most of the day. This was day two of the plow in action, yesterday I hear the plow
bit into a few drifts. As these photos will attest the snowfall west of Banff was heavy on Monday.
As we plowed west from Banff we flanged the siding at Eldon then used the spreader up the north track from Lake
Louise to Stephen. We then ran back down the south track then plowed back to Stephen again. After this we continued
west to Field flanging through both sidings at Partridge and Cathedral. In Field we changed ends and returned to Banff
putting the plow away. That ended a 17 hour day.
Here are some shots taken inside the plow so you can see what the operator position looks like. The machinery is air
operated with all the noisy air controls venting into the cab. From what I hear the plow rides like a brick.
