No One Injured in CPR Train Derailment
Blackfalds Alberta - Investigators are looking into the
derailment of a Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. train in central Alberta.
The northbound locomotive and five of its 45 cars left the tracks on Monday afternoon.
CPR spokeswoman Breanna Feigel says two of the rail cars jack-knifed behind the locomotive, but all remained upright.
Of the five cars that derailed, two were empty, while the others were carrying soybeans, pipe, and a chemical used in making plastics.
While there were no spills or injuries, the railway crossing had to be closed for about two hours to allow removal of the cars and
repairs to the damaged crossing.
Feigel anticipates that it will take at least three days to wrap up the investigation.
