Canadians Do Not Want an Election, Says Kamp
Commuters may want an election to come later rather than sooner.
Bill C-11, which changes the Railway Safety Act, includes a mechanism to allow resolution of differences between
renters of railway track and the owners of it, has just reached the Senate.
If the bill gets through the upper house, it will make it easier for TransLink to negotiate with CP Rail, and
open up more track time for the West Coast Express, which currently runs just during rush hours.
Kamp said the bill passed third reading on 28 Feb 2007 in the House of Commons. It could then
receive final assent in the next few weeks, providing an election doesn't intervene.
If there is an election, there's a mechanism which allows a bill to be reintroduced to a new House and save
some time but "it would definitely slow things down."
