Train Visit a Letdown
Surry British Columbia - As a founding member of
smartrail.ca, who are advocating the removal of the rail
away from our shoreline to a safer route inland, what happened Sunday was quite ironic. I have to admit I was looking forward to
seeing the Royal Hudson go through Crescent Beach, so I asked some friends to come over for the experience. We were there with a
number of other people lining different areas of the tracks with cameras in hand ready to hear the sounds of old with the puffing of
the engines and the sounds of the olden day's whistles.
Well, as we waited the whistle sounds you hear coming from a train you could not see yet was familiar to sounds we hear way too many
times throughout the day and night. The train finally arrived and to our great disappointment it went flying by being pulled by a
diesel engine with the Royal Hudson facing backward behind it. And to top it off, instead of a caboose it was being pushed by another
newer diesel engine.
Instead of reminding me of the old days where things were much quieter and safer with the loads trains carried, it quickly brought
back the reminder of why I so much want to see the trains gone.
