Talks Continue Between CP Rail, Track Workers
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. and the union representing 3,000
track repair workers are talking in hopes of averting a strike this week, according to a union note on Monday.
The Teamster union had said previously it could be in a legal strike position as early as Wednesday, but the note to workers said that
neither side had filed the 72-hour warning required before a strike or lockout could begin.
Canada's second-largest railway and the union are at odds over issues including wages and seniority rights. The previous
contract expired at the end of 2006.
A CP Rail spokesman was not available for comment. The railway has said it would use management crews if there were a strike. The
workers are all based in Canada.
