Alta Freight Trains Collide
Bow Island Alberta - There were no injuries and only
minor damage when two freight trains collided near Bow Island in southern Alberta.
The collision happened in the wee hours of Sunday morning about one kilometre west of the community.
An official with Canadian Pacific Railway says the two locomotives skidded off the tracks.
Breanne Feigel says there are "no public safety or environmental concerns" although one train did leak a small amount
of fuel.
But she says crews quickly contained the spill.
One train was carrying grain and the other coal.
The derailment caused minor traffic delays as heavy equipment was brought in to begin the cleanup. Feigel said an alternate rail
route in the area was being used to redirect CPR trains.
"The line is not closed, but the section where the contact occurred is closed," Feigel
said.
