A Fallen Brother
Sisters and Brothers:
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Locomotive Engineer Brother Lonnie Plasko in the line of duty as a
result of a train derailment at Trail B.C. 23 Apr 2007.
Brother Plasko was working as a Locomotive Engineer on the Kootenay Valley Railway, an internal shortline of CPR represented by the
General Committees West. He is a member of Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Division 563, Cranbrook, B.C.
Brother Plasko was 51-years-old and hired out June 1982. He was a qualified Locomotive Engineer with Seniority of August
1985.
Brother Plasko lived in Gennell, B.C., and is survived by his wife Wendy, adult step daughter Tracy, parents Joe and Lillian Plasko,
and Brother Neil of Nelson, B.C.
There are very few details available at this time relating to the cause of this accident as the investigation by the Transportation
Safety Board and the CPR is on-going.
We ask that you join us in extending our deepest condolences to the family of Brother Plasko.
It is times like this that we as railroaders should take time to reflect on the dangers of our job and take the extra steps to ensure
that we arrive home safely for our families.
Funeral services will be announced when arrangements are completed.
