CPR Vows to Keep Rolling as Strike Looms
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. is girding for a potential strike
by 3,200 maintenance workers, chief executive officer Fred Green said yesterday.
The company has contingency plans to keep freight moving, including assigning more than 1,300 managers to fill in for 1,200 employees
on day-to-day maintenance duties.
The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference's maintenance of way employees division has been working without a contract since
31 Dec 2006.
The federal government appointed mediator Bill Lewis on 26 Apr 2007, but talks broke off on
28 Apr 2007.
