Fire Closes Trans-Canada Near Banff, Teen Charged
Banff Alberta - A 17-year-old has been
charged under the National Parks Act in connection with a bonfire that spread out of control near Banff, RCMP said yesterday.
The fire, which started Wednesday afternoon in dry grass adjacent to Vermillion Lakes, engulfed a one-kilometre area and
temporarily closed the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canadian Pacific Railway line.
Crews knocked down the fire by midnight, but cleanup continued yesterday.
