Revelstoke Division Derailment
At approximately 01:00 hours an eastbound train went off the
track on the main line at Mile 96.9 on the Mountain Subdivision, 50 kms east of Revelstoke, BC. Six empty grain cars and an empty
antifreeze car went off the tracks. The train took out high voltage power lines, which still haven't been restored. No one was injured.
This sight has seen many trains derail due to the sharp curve the trains must navigate around and adjust train speed accordingly. It
is too early for anyone to determine if this derailment was caused by poor track, however it only stands to reason that while the
managers are running around the country trying to fix all the hot spots, that the regularly maintenance members on strike are the ones
who would maintain this curve on a regular basis. The fact that this work is not being cared out would definitely have played a role
in this case.
Thank god no one died!
